After graduating college in 1984 with a degree in English Literature, Robyn joined one of the largest Import & Export Trading companies in China handling chemical and pharmaceutical raw materials. With her youthful enthusiasm Robyn traveled throughout China visiting many different chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers. She created a working knowledge and understanding of the entire sourcing, manufacturing, and supply process. Robyn was exposed to the international business world and excelled at the semi-annual Guangzhou Export Commodity Fair. By the age of 24, she became the youngest manager in the entire Foreign Trade Industry of Sinochem Yantai.
From her time in college reading Whitman’s LEAVES of GRASS and Fitzgerald’s The GREAT GATSBY, and from watching Michael Landon in LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE until her first trip in 1987 when she came to U.S. with a trade delegation and saw the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, Robyn had dreamed of someday making it in America. In Oct. 1990, Robyn took her first step towards her American dream. She arrived in New York with two empty hands and a heart full of confidence. Robyn believed “IF YOU WERE A BIRD, YOU NEED THE HIGHEST SKY TO FLY; IF YOU WERE A FISH, YOU NEED THE VASTEST OCEAN TO SWIM.” America was to be her sky, and she was the bird, ready to fly. After four years of continuing success in business, Robyn dreamed of starting her own company. With the foundation of building a strong bridge with her knowledge and experience between the chemical & pharmaceutical manufacturers whom she had known for years, and the customers in North America and Europe, she was determined that she could help both manufacturers and customers benefit from each other and work together for the long term. In 1994, ROCHEM INTERNATIONAL INC. was started by Robyn in a small office in her home. Robyn dreamed to have her own office in an office building. Two years later in 1996, she moved to a rented office in Great Neck, NY. She kept working hard and dreamed to have her own office building and her own warehouse. Eight years later in 2002, the dream came true. Robyn purchased the current headquarters and warehousing building located in Ronkonkoma. Robyn describes herself as a dreamer who understands hard work and is guided by strict principles. She vows to continue her dream to help others by bringing the most added value to manufacturers in China and customers worldwide with a professional and knowledgeable team while offering superior customer service. |
